The Alara MetriScan system estimates bone density by taking a radiographic absorptiometry scan of the patient`s hand. In no more than two minutes, MetriScan estimates the phalangeal bone density of the patient`s three middle fingers. MetriScan compares the patient’s BMD against the average estimated bone density of a healthy young adult female Caucasian population (T-score) and an age-matched healthy population of the patient’s gender and ethnicity (Z-score) . With the patient`s data in the system, MetriScan then calculates the patient’s T-score and Z-score and prints the test results for your analysis. In a recent independent study of different methods of osteoporosis bone density testing, radiographic absorptiometry of the phalanges correlated with other measures as well as or better than any other measurement.
