Additional information:
The Chamber had the acrylic windows [portholes and cylinder tube] replaced in December 1998. Initially the service life of the PVHO Code was 10 years from the initial fabrication of the chamber. Acrylic at that time had to be changed out to continue operations {Sigma II Chamber was fabricated in 1988}.
Since the 1998 code regarding a 10 year service life for all acrylic tubes and our change out, the code has changed to a 20 year service life cycle. Our current chamber acrylics is 10 years and 3 months old since it was fabricated and changed out. This puts this chamber in the 11th year of the service life of the acrylic windows as defined by the PVHO Code.
This code applies to the use of HBO Chambers that are housed within a physical space protected by the weather elements, sunlight and extreme conditions. The Sigma II chamber has 9 years and 9 months service life remaining as defined by PVHO Standards.
The user of the chamber always has to visually inspect the acrylic of a chamber system and address seals and integrity. With the current PVHO Code , the Sigma II chamber has not met or exceeded the 20 year service life as allowed by the new standards.
