Tips for buying Implantable Defibrillator

  1. The implantable defibrillator/pacemaker should have cardio version, defibrillation, and bradycardia pacing therapies; antitachycardia pacing is an option depending on user requirements.
  2. The unit should be able to provide at least 30 joules the minimum of five separate shocks. A biphasic waveform is preferred. For bradycardia pacing, the rate should be 30-100 pulses per minute, and the sensitivity should be 0.5 to 5 mV - atrial and 0.5 to 7.5 mV ventricular.
  3. The unit should be able to store and transmit at least 15 events via telemetry, including: intracardiac electrogram and last shock impedance. The minimum life expectancy of the battery should be five years.
  4. Many types and levels of ICD are available for implementation by facilities. The physician based on the patient's illness should make the selection through a process in which cardiologists, cardiovascular surgeons, and electro physiologists will all be included for better assessment of the specific needs of the facility.
  5. The lead system needs to be approved for use with the pulse generator.
